Contraindications

Below is a list of contraindications for treatment by London Soft Tissue Therapy. The list includes, but is not limited to:

Complete Contraindications

Under no circumstances will we treat you if you disclose to us you have any of the following:

  • Recent Surgery: Within the last 6 weeks, unless cleared by a healthcare provider.
  • Severe Cardiovascular Conditions: Unstable angina, recent heart attack, uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), congestive heart failure.
  • Acute Illness or Fever: Active infection, flu, or fever.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or Blood Clot: Active or recent DVT or clotting disorder.
  • Severe Respiratory Conditions: Severe asthma attack, acute bronchitis, or pneumonia.
  • Recent Fractures: Within the last 3 months, unless cleared by a healthcare provider.
  • Open Wounds or Burns: Any open wounds, burns, or areas of infection.
  • Contagious Skin Conditions: Active cases of ringworm, impetigo, or other contagious skin infections.
  • Severe Edema: Excessive swelling due to lymphedema or other conditions.
  • Pregnancy: First trimester, unless receiving specialized prenatal massage from a qualified therapist.

Local Contraindications

Treatment can take place but to the area that is contraindicated.

  • Bruising or Hematoma: Recent bruising or hematoma in the area to be treated.
  • Varicose Veins: Inflamed or painful varicose veins.
  • Sunburn: Recently sunburned skin, particularly if blistered or peeling.
  • Localised Inflammation: Swelling or inflammation due to injury or infection.
  • Recent Scar Tissue: Scars less than 6 months old, unless cleared by a healthcare provider.
  • Local Infectious Conditions: Boils, herpes outbreaks, or fungal infections in the area.

Medical Contraindications

Treatment may be able to take place but a medical note from your doctor confirming it is ok for you to be treated must be presented before treatment.

  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Uncontrolled hypertension may require modification of pressure and techniques. Consultation with a healthcare provider is advisable.
  • Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension): Clients with severely low blood pressure may experience dizziness or fainting during treatment. Caution and modified techniques may be necessary.
  • Osteoporosis: Severe osteoporosis may require lighter pressure and avoidance of deep tissue techniques.
  • Diabetes: Care should be taken with diabetic clients, particularly those with compromised circulation or neuropathy.
  • Cancer: Certain cancer treatments, recent surgeries, or metastatic cancer may require specialized oncology massage.
  • Autoimmune Disorders: Conditions such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis may require gentle techniques and avoidance of pressure on affected joints.
  • Neurological Disorders: Conditions such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis may require modified techniques to accommodate mobility issues or muscle stiffness.
  • Psychiatric Disorders: Conditions such as severe anxiety, psychosis, or bipolar disorder may require a calm and supportive approach.
  • Medications: Certain medications, such as blood thinners or muscle relaxants, may impact treatment and require modification of techniques.
  • Pacemaker or Implants: Clients with pacemakers or other implants may require modified techniques and avoidance of certain modalities like electrical stimulation.
